About Kiama Bathroom Renovations

How this works, who does the building, and what we have deliberately left off the site.

What this is

Kiama Bathroom Renovations arranges bathroom, ensuite, laundry, accessible and holiday-let bathroom work across the Kiama council area. You describe the room, a measure gets booked at a time that suits you, and the licensed builder who would do the job provides a written, itemised quote.

We are not a building company. There are no trades on a payroll here and no builder's licence on the wall. A good many websites in this industry are set up exactly the same way and do not mention it. We would rather say it on the first page you read.

Who does the work

Renovation work is carried out in partnership with Coastal Renovation Group, a licensed NSW builder. Licence and insurance details are provided on request.

Please check them. The NSW Fair Trading licence register will tell you who holds the licence, what class it is, whether it is current and whether there has been any disciplinary action. It takes about a minute, and you should do it for every builder you speak to, including this one.

Plumbing, electrical work, waterproofing and asbestos removal all require their own licences in NSW and are carried out by appropriately licensed trades.

Why only this council area

Because the problems here are specific, and general advice misses them:

  • Weatherboard and fibro cottages with the bathroom in a rear addition on a timber floor, and fibro that needs testing before anything is disturbed
  • Salt air that reaches well inland and destroys cheap hardware from Bombo to the Gerringong ridge
  • Short-stay houses at Gerroa, Werri Beach and along the coast where the program has to fit a booking calendar
  • Estuary humidity around Minnamurra, where ventilation is the whole job
  • Dairy-country properties at Jamberoo on tank water and onsite wastewater, where the pump and the system set what is possible
  • Consistent seventies-to-nineties brick veneer through Kiama Downs, where the slab decides the budget
  • A lot of people staying put, for whom a level-entry shower and solid wall backing are the point of the renovation

Knowing that before the quote is written is what keeps the final invoice close to it.

What you will not find here

  • Reviews, ratings or testimonials. The site is new. There are none, and none have been invented.
  • Numbers nobody can verify — bathrooms completed, years in business, awards, satisfaction percentages.
  • Prices quoted over the phone. A fibro cottage in Bombo and a nineties ensuite in Kiama Downs are not the same job, and pretending otherwise wastes your time.
  • Promises about approvals. Kiama Municipal Council, a private certifier or your owners corporation decides those, not us.
  • Licence numbers or ABNs on the page. They are provided on request so you can check them yourself, which is the only reason they matter.

How a job actually goes

A phone call, a measure, a written quote, time to think about it, selections locked in, then the work. In NSW the deposit on residential building work is capped at 10 per cent, and above the NSW threshold for home building compensation cover that cover has to be in place before a deposit is requested.

The detail is on how the job runs, and the cost page sets out the broad guide tiers.
